Now: Blooming
In addition to the hydrangea from yesterday, my daylilies are about to explode. It’s amazing what a little compost and worm poop can accomplish.
For two or three summers my hydrangeas have appeared to be teetering on the edge. Mostly dead…yet slightly alive. Producing a few measly flowers. Last fall I tried throwing some compost and worm castings on my flower beds. The difference is beyond dramatic, and I’d be showing you just how amazing they look if iPhoto and my phone had not just had a bit of a scuffle. I will have to try again tomorrow. Here is the only photo left unscathed:

The daylilies really are taking over. If you are in Pittsburgh and want some, leave me a comment. I’ll be dividing many of my plants in late summer, assuming my daylily mentor, Chris, approves. Check out my daylily set on Flickr. I’ll be adding to it as more blooms appear.
I think daylilies are the perfect perennial. They fill the garden with color and thrive on neglect!
