Oliver is loaded with questions these days, including lots about about babies and a few more than I would like about death. We’re trying to stick to babies as much as possible. I thought his head was going to explode when I told him about the umbilical cord after he asked how he ate while [...]

Can we just call it NaBlo VacationMo? NaBloLameOh? Ixnay on the PoMoNaBlo?
I took the weekend off from blogging. Would that I had done something productive instead. No, I did the usual stuff with the family. Ballet with Eleanor, which was preceded by epic carrying on about not going to the thing she loves and looks [...]

A long-anticipated iHOP finally opened in our vicinity a few days ago. I decided to take advantage of the one member of our family who is neither on aficionado of pancake nor a lover of breakfast for dinner being out of town to take the kids to iHOP for dinner. The best laid plans….
Upon hearing [...]

We have one TV in the house, which is usually fine. It’s older, not a flat screen, and not HD, but it works well enough. We have cable. Our VCR died. Our DVD player also bit the dust but we hooked up an old MacBook Pro and that works reasonably well.
What’s missing from this little [...]

Oliver had his last soccer game today. Against parents (myself not included as I was guarding the pizza — don’t ask) but still, end of the season. After my previous bitching I feel the need to point out some good things that came out of it.
Oliver clearly learned some new skills and further developed what [...]

Last year, just about this time, my son’s school had their annual fall admissions open house. I was a parent tour guide and it was crazy amounts of fun. Meeting new people and their kids, talking about a place I believe in with every fiber is about the most fun I can have in public. [...]

Oliver decided to try soccer this season. And he loves it. He’s also pretty good. Being fast and motivated serves him well, not to mention having a basic grasp of the game.
There are more rules for parents than for the kids. No yelling your kid’s name or any “instructions.” (In our case “Go brown!” is [...]

For some reason my rack has been getting a lot of attention from the kids. When he’s in a position to reach, Oliver likes to pat the boobage to get my attention. His old habit of holding my wrist has been cast aside for a much more direct method. It always works, I suppose.
Eleanor has [...]

Most mornings it is getting brighter at 7:30. This morning it was getting darker. Rain fell just as Oliver and I headed out to the bus stop. The first spots on the driveway were bigger than quarters. I foolishly thought the bus would come quickly, before we were soaked to the skin. Rain, lightning, thunder, [...]
